My Norwegian experience

Me in front of the castle by the water.

I decided to go to Oslo, Norway to visit a friend since I had some time off! I've never really heard anything great about it before but I'm always up for trying something new so I thought why not? I was off on March 1/07. I had to stop over in London and then take a two hour flight to Oslo. I started to come down with a fever on the plane which really sucked. I got to my hotel room, took some Tylenol and slept for 24 hours!! Great start to my trip right?!?

I met up with my friend which was fun and the weather was surprisingly mild there! I walked around in a spring jacket almost the entire time. We hit a couple bars and a club or two during my stay. I noticed that every club/bar/lounge that I went to was tiny. You can barely move with only 20 people in the place! At first it was kinda cool cause it was different but it started to get pretty annoying when every place we went to was packed!! I also noticed that a lot of people there were not very friendly to foreigners. I'm not saying everyone was like that but I'd have to say the majority were. I've never experienced that before in a foreign land.

All in all it was interesting and definitely different! Atleast now I can cross Norway off my list of places I've travelled!!:)

Hehe.... It's a well known fact; Norwegians stick to Norwegians =)
Nah..... It might not be that they were unfriendly, a lot of Norwegians are still scared of speaking English, even though we've had to learn it at school from the age of 9ish for many many years! Beats me why!
Mind you - If I lived in a city as ugly as Oslo i might be a little less friendly as well!

I was thinking about going to Oslo this summer. Would you recommend it or anywhere else in Norway?

Weird about them not being friendly to foreigners! I met a bunch of Norwegians while traveling and they were all really cool. I wonder if it's a problem just with bigger cities. I lived in Rome for a bit and they weren't as friendly to foreigners either -- maybe people in big cities are too stressed out all of the time :P
