Meeting Islander13
August 20, 2009
I had been in contact with Leah (islander13) for several weeks regarding her upcoming trip to Honolulu. I gave her ideas of things to do and helped her find some reputable tour companies. We decided to make plans to get together while she was here. Here's the bad news - I would be in Chicago for a TravBuddy meet-up for the majority of her visit. There would only be one day when we could meet :(
Leah was staying on Waikiki, as most visitors do, and this seemed like the obvious place to meet. At 8 pm I showed up at Tiki's Bar and was ready for some fun. Leah told me she would be with her brother and a new TravBuddy recruit she met, Ian (ibesmond). There she was!!! Hello. Aloha. Blah blah blah. The usual introductions were made. I was happy to hear that she had a great time here in Honolulu. I like to talk with people about their Hawaii experiences because it's nice to hear the excitement in their voices. Also, when I listen to their stories I learn a lot. Yes, I live in Honolulu but I see it through the eyes of a resident, not a visitor. Visitors see and experience things differently than me. By hearing the positives and negatives of their visit, I can help others when planning their trips here.
After a short bit, Leah's brother wanted to go out to a club. Ian suggested a few different places where he could make the most of his last night in town. Bye Leah's brother!!! Good luck in your love connection :p Now it was just me, Leah and Ian. We talked about a whole variety of subjects ranging from careers to family to silly things we've done in the past. Sure, set Ian up with another Long Island Iced Tea!!! I have to drive, no liquor for me. See - I can be responsible!!! Leah received a phone call from her brother. He wanted us to meet him at the club. I declined the offer because I was getting tired - I was jet lagged from my visit to Chicago. I was bummed because Leah is a pleasure to be around but I couldn't muster enough energy to go clubbing. We parted ways at the entrance to Tiki's Bar. Bye Leah, bye Ian. I had a nice evening but I wish I could have spent more time with Leah when she was in town :( I get the feeling that she will be back here in the near future.
