The last day, and the Acropolis at last!

When I was back at school, in my final year, there was a school trip for the Classics students to go to Greece. We travelled around for a week and a bit, and it was a brilliant experience which really sparked my love for travelling (especially without my parents!) and Classics. It inspired me to travel to as many ancient sites as possible, Egypt, Rome and Turkey were to come!

The last day, and the Acropolis at last!

We set off for the metro about 8, I don't know why, but I have a thing about taking the public transport of the countries I visit, I love seeing the different ways they work. Crazy, possibly.

When we finally reached the Acropolis it was, as expected, breathtaking. We walked up through the Propylaia and there it was, the Parthenon. It was a tear jerking moment. This great building that I had been studying in detail for so long finally right before me.

I went into the museum which was full of many fascinating artefacts such as the fragmets of the pediments which would have adorned the Parthenon's facade from before the earthquakes and replicas of what it would have looked like before the 1600 explosion. Next I went by myself for a nosy around the Erecthion. Now the Erecthion it really is a bizarre building, but it has a certain charm about it even though it is all over the place. We then decended the hill towards the Hephaestion and the Agora. The Hephaestion is the best preserved ancient monument in world and really is a beautiful building.
