This weekend we decided to go away for the weekend in Ireland somewhere. Naturally enough I picked Galway. Most people who know me, know I love that city. In the end Sarah decided we should go somewhere I dont go as often so settled on Cork.

Honestly I have not been there since I kid, even though my father claims to be from there (he isnt) and I have lots of friends from there.

On the train up, Sarah told me a story of how she met a group of irish lads before who took the piss out of her telling her that they came from Limerick, she thought they meant limerick as in a four lined poem!! I tried in vain to tell her, not only have i lived there but the train would stop there.

Thats why I have a photo of her in front of the sign.

Walking around the streets of Cork with Sarah, I remembered how almost a year before I was in Paris with some of my best friends. Myself and Jeff strolled around Paris one of the days just chatting. We werent going anywhere in particular (thats a lie, we were going to a bar but chose to stop off in a few along the way, its just that comment is not in keeping with this story so shhh). We walked past many of the big sights and walked down many of the forgotten streets. We saw the real city. We chose not to see the city for its landmarks or tourist hotspots but for what it really is.

Sarah and I, enjoyed the bars of Parnell Street & Plunkett Street, walking along the banks of the River Lee, exploring the hilly streets to the right of town up past the Gaol and of course the Butter Museum and Cork's many churches and Abbey's that all seemed to have chose the hill for their sublime unique locations.

I have always loved the Cork accent. Not in the same way I like a girl with a Derry accent when its very musical and flows perfectly. The Cork accent, the real Cork accent is something of an oddity. Someone once described Brad Pitt's pikey accent in Snatch as being a Cork man trying to speak French...says it all really.....

Its a great city, might try make it back during the summer to really enjoy it with the weather and maybe do a trip to Foto Island or Kinsale next time.
