Indonesia earth quake

In the last few months of 2009 there was an earth quake in the pacific rim resualiting in a small tsunami. The tusunami had little affect on the area i went to but the earth quake left many familys without a home, kids with no school, and the sick with no hospital.
Unfortunately due to political reasons our time here was to be short (2 weeks), and there was alot of work to be done. Due to the large nature of our organisation we were able to spread our efforts over all tasks, making major repairs to the main hospital so it could be safely reopened, made 2 schools safe enough so the kids could return to the area, but in tempory classrooms we built, stabalizing the hill side above a local village that had collapsed, and providing clean drinking water to the city as their supply had been cut off by broken pipes and become contaminated.
Personaly i worked on the schools, which was rather more rewarding then i had thought. It wasnt so much the fact i was playing a small part in a larger picture, but the interaction with the local people and in particular the kids. Maybe it was just their childish innocents, but despite what had happened they always had a smile and were very friendly. Even the adults were friendly and would had a conversation with us, or try to due to our very bad language skills.
If nothing else it was a humbling experience. A chance to learn something from a a group of people i would have considered less intelligent then myself. Although i may have had more education i now understand this does not make me more intelligent. To find the happiness in being alive when you have lost so much is worth more then a good education, person opinion. I thank these people for the chance to be a happier person.
