Cable-car ride up to Mount Vitosha. Great view of the city.
Was in Sofia
for work as usual. There is not alot of touristy stuff to do, but nonetheless, I got a chance to check the city it out on my days off. First stop was Mount Vitosha. Mount Vitosha is a small mountain right outside the city(about a 15 min taxi ride). It's a snow-capped mountain, so it's a nice destination for skiers and snowboarders. It's actually pretty cool up there. It reminded me so much of the 80's ski-school movies. You take a cable-car up to the slopes. From the moment you get off the cable-car you can hear the classic sounds of Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" blasted through out the ski village. There are a couple of decent restaurants, a few ski schools, a few ski villages, etc.
Ski Village on Mount Vitosha
. But it didn't come off like a touristy ski resort, it seemed more like a local skiing and hangout spot. I didn't do any skiing or snowboarding, but I definitely plan to in the future. Other than the mountain, there really isn't much esle to see in Sofia. The malls are typical malls. The shopping street is a typical shopping street. The food is ok. I don't go to clubs or bars much. My hotel (Hotel Greenville) was pretty nice. They have casinos everywhere around downtown. I liked Casino London. My favorite restaurants were the "Happy Bar" and "Escada Pizza". By the way the "Escada Pizza" resaurant(more like a pizza stand on the sidewalk) is some the best pizza I have ever had. The lines were around the corner for this pizza. The slices are some the largest I seen. It's one of the hidden gems of Sofia. If you are a pizza lover and find yourself in Sofia, I definitely recomend a stop at Escada Pizza. It's located at the end of the shopping street, right near the corner of that intersection. Anyway here are some pics of Mount Vitosha, Escada Pizza, and some random pics of downtown Sofia.
