View from the plane of Lower Manhattan.
After a 7 hour drive from Regina to Bismarck, ND; a quick sleep with a wake-up call at 4:45AM; a too-close layover in Denver, CO; and a quick panic that our luggage did not arrive in NYC (although it did); we finally arrived in NYC in one piece. Last November, Everett and I went with Jon and Amanda to Vegas and, due to an over-booked flight, we were given two vouchers for a free flight anywhere in the US. This is the trip that we're cashing it in for. :)
It was hot and humid the moment we stepped off the plane and into the terminal. It was hot on the bus and it was hot on the subway. It was hot on the road, but, thankfully, not hot in our room. We are lucky enough to be staying in a Holiday Inn right smack dab in SoHo! We wiped ourselves down a bit in our room (seriously.
Ev and I in the RUSH line for Tribeca.
..it was 29 degrees here today!) and then took off immediately for something to eat (hadn't eaten all day and it was 4 o'clock) and to make our way to the World Premiere (!!) of a movie called Serious Moonlight (Kristen Bell, Timothy Hutton, Meg Ryan) that was about 15 blocks away as part of Tribeca Film Fest. The film started at 5:30 and, since it sold out before we could get tix, we wanted to get in the RUSH tickets line ASAP.
We bought a huge slice o pizza on our walk (and it felt AWESOME!! heheh) and gawked at the AMAZING NYC City Hall before getting in the hotass line at 4:15 for the movie. We stood in line for an hour and a half and it was so so so hot and we didn't even know if we'd get it because it all depended on whether or not all the ticket holders showed up.
My attempt at a celeb photo: Meg Ryan's hand is signing a poster in the extreme left side of this photo. Perez Hilton, eat your heart out. :)
It was pretty awesome to be there and see the red carpet and got to see Meg Ryan, but it was kinda shitty that Kristen Bell never showed up, or, if she did, I didn't see all 60 inches of her. We ended up, at the last moment, being one of the last 20 people allowed out of the RUSH line and into the theatre. We squeed like geeks that we were walking on a red carpet and ended up with awesome seats about 10 rows from the front! The movie was actually pretty awesome and darkly romantic/funny, but Meg Ryan's artificially inflated upper lip was kinda distracting. After the movie, Director Cheryl Hines (from Curb Your Enthusiasm) took the stage and did a Q&A that I was not expecting. Pretty neat.
We watched some breakdancers on the walk back and munched on a chicken pita from a street vendor.

I, uh, ended up spilling it on my only pair of pants which was less awesome. We met up with Dad and Tammy afterward and made our way to Times Square. It was so so so busy and weird and phantasmagorical. None of the photos really turned out, but it was neat. We had an overpriced streetside hotdog and walked toward Rockafeller Center. Dad was awesome and splurged to pay for all of us to go to the top of 30 Rock and view an AMAZING view of the city. I think it was 68 floors high and...wow. It was windy up there and I am not scared of heights but it was a bit freaky up there. It was about midnight when we were done and we decided to head back to the hotel.
I think Ev and I will try to stay up later and see the nightlife more later in the week, but we already spent our alotment for the day and we are super beat. I think we're going to look at art galleries tomorrow and possibly take a bus tour. Woot!
