Valldemossa
April 7, 2004
The mountain village of Valldemossa is best known for the Cartuja de Jesús Nazareno which is now simply called Chartreuse of Valdemossa. The Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and his beloved - the French writer George Sand - spent the winter 1838/39 here together. Today the former abbey hosts a museum. Thousands of tourists visit the little cells where Chpoin and Sand lived.
Since it was already late afternoon and the line in front of the building was very long we did not visit the museum. Instead we strolled through the parc and then left the tourist paths. We walked through the wonderful narrow alleys of Valldemossa which are decorated with hundres of pot plants. In these alleys the dreamy spirit of this little mountain village is still noticeable.
