Back to the volacano and down a fast slide
After 4 days of 6 hours per day of Spanish school, I was more than ready to get out of town and see the nice parts of Costa Rica. I returned to Volcan Arenal after having visited there 13 years ago. Some has changed in the development around the area and the mountain is a bit bigger. I traveled with two students from the school and stayed at a hotel with good view of the volcano. It was smoking a bit and there were some good rock flows which glowed at night.
The next day after arriving we decided to take a ride on a tram to nearby mountain which we came down on cables which we were suspended with only a personal harnes. This involved going down about 300 to 500 feet on a cable from about 1/4 to 3/4 mile in length hitting speeds of about 40 miles per hour. The landing at the end of the cable was for me the most exciting since we had about 20 feet to decelerate about 20 to 30 miles per hour. It was a bit like landing on the deck of an air craft carrier. (photos will be posted latter).
After that excitement the next day the hot springs were the thing to do and a good chance to finally get a hot bath. Graciasa dios!!!!!!!!!!!!
The trip home was okay until we saw an accident which happened right in front of us of a car entering an intersection being hit by some speeding drivers. Unfortunately a driver was killed. Era muy feo! Still upset in seeing such an unfortunate occurance. Can“t imagine what the solders in Iraq have to face. Life is a gift, use it well.
Well it is back to school now and hopefully it will get easier soon.
