3 days in Milwaukee

Harley Davidson Museum

So I arrived in Milwaukee on a Thursday night, ready for a 3 day conference of too much talk and too much pastry. Ended up having a great time meeting people from all over the country and the world! I already knew some people from Argentina and Norway  (I had met them there 2 years ago) but also met some other great people too! I Went to an Irish pub in downtown Milwaukee on the night on my arrival. They served some great local beers. Jogged around the lake front area on the second day and had dinner later that night at the museum. The museum was beautiful. Dinner was served very late, and the wine just kept flowing,  By the time a big group of us met up later  to go out on the town ... I was feeling no pain! We went to a few places and ended up at an unassuming pub. It turned out to be the secret entrance to the Safehouse restaurant. I talked the staff into letting us all in and we drank and danced until the wee hours.  I ended up getting to my AM conference a little late. Oh well! Still managed to get out to another pub (or maybe it was the same one) for a few beers on my last night in Milwaukee. Turned out my last day gave me the longest time to explore the city. Went to the Open Market for lunch and the Harley Davidson Museum before heading  back home. Looking forward to next years International Functional Gastroenterolgy Disease Symposium.

Milwaukee Art Museum
This year was the second time I had the opportunity to see the beautiful Milwaukee Art Museum. Both times were catered events where we are allowed to see the art displays and then have a fancy dinner after. Very beautiful building, both inside and out. Last years artist was a little too far out for my taste, but, this year it was someone who studied under Rembrandt. Very nice. Did I mention that the top of the building actually has this wing like ceiling that will open up (if it is not too windy). I never got to see it open, but I heard it is pretty special.
Pub close to hotel
I ended up at this pub twice during this weekend trip. Mostly because my vanity won out and I had on high heel boots that looked really nice , but, "not made for walking". Anyway, I have fun where ever I am so fun was had at MO's Irish pub. The first night was just a beer and a little food (good french fries) and the last night there was a little 3 piece band that played some really good oldies. Lots of different beers on Tap,(drank a lot of beer in Milwaukee), and a good atmosphere.

Must see for Harley fans
Having ridden on Harleys for 30 years, I felt it my obligation to take a trip to the Harley Museum in Milwaukee. I was intrigued to hear the whole building was made of recycled materials. I enjoyed seeing all the bikes from the very first bike to ones in current production. Thought the room for "clubs" would be fun, but it turned out to be "racing clubs" that I really never heard of. Come on! Where were the Hell's Angels represented! They played a huge role in the Harley legacy ... I thought that whole aspect was under represented. Anyway, I enjoyed the museum, bought stuff in the gift shop, didn't go in the restaurant at all.
