Trip to Kutna Hora and visit to the Church of Bones. (real human bones make the decor of the church)
My friend Josef left for Slovakia and Kathy does not arrive until tonight, so since I will be all by myself during the day I decided to rent a car with a guide/driver to take me to some fantastic place. My hotel made all the arrangements and I got my car and driver at 9 am.
The drive was going to be to Kutna Hora a medieval mining town included in the UNESCO world cultural herritage. The town is immaculate, and its cathedral rivals St Vitus in beauty and grandeur. However the highlight of the trip was an old monastery and small church in Sedlec.
According to the tradition at the end of the 13 century the abbot of the monastery brought a handful of earth from Jerusalem which he stattered over the cementery. This cementery became part of the Holly Land. Thousands of people were place to rest here at the time of the plague epidemic.
The interior of the chappel consists almost entirelly of human bones, see for yourself in the pictures below.... a bit creepy but very very interesting.
