Our second visit to La Paz was for two nights. We stayed again in the annex of Adventure Brew.
Saturday night was a night that we had been waiting for as it was curry night for us. In La Paz theres a resturant called the Star of India on Cochabamba. This is the first time Ive had curry since Ive let the UK almost 4 months ago now. And it didnt let me down, although the portions are huge. If others are going there you can easily share a main and rice between two.
We went with some university friends of my brothers who were also in town. One of them managed to eat a whole Vindaloo!! If you complete this in the restuarant you get awarded with a tshirt! It was something to behold anyway.
On the sunday we hoped to go to the Al Alto market but realised that the Las Cholitas wrestling was also held there and started early. We decided instead to wonder around the Mercado Buenos Aires which is a market that covers at least 30 blocks up from gringo alley.
We went to the Las Cholitas wrestling later that afternoon. If you book the full package (which is available from most hostels) then you get picked up and dropped back, get front row seats, a snack and bathroom tokens. A word to the wise the toilet are awful so if you dont have to go, dont even bother to check them out!
The show was crazy, women fighting women, men fighting men and even some men fighting women! That was a little odd to be honest but you sort of get into it as its terribly fake. There is a lot of showman ship involved with it all which is sometimes hilarious and other times again just odd!
Its a worth while experience just to see how much the locals get into it. Grown women shouting at the top of their lunges at the fake type wrestling!
