Second Day in Uruguay...Montevideo
I took an early bus from Colonia over to Montevideo from the bus station. Buses go really regularly with a few companies so there was no trouble with timings.
I was disappointed with Montevideo after the beautiful Colonia. I arrived at lunch time with a friend so we went to find some where to eat in the old town. We ate in the Mercado del Puerto which is the tourist area. The food was really delicious but was the cheapest meal Ive had in South America so far.
After walking round Montevideo for a while I was getting tired so we went to check out a bowling alley. This was good fun and not very expensive for a game. Montevideo has a bit of a reputation in Uruguay for being a bit un-safe at night, so after the bowling I went to relax in the hostel and watch films! Actually nice to completely zone out for a while.
Overall Montevideo was just a big city for me, with nothing of particular speciality. If anyone is thinking of doing a day trip from Buenos Aires I would definitely say go to Colonia for the day and leave Montevideo out of the schedule.
