Arriving in La Paz for the first time is an experience itself! The city is huge. We took an overnight bus from Sucre so the first sight of La Paz is from above as you drive round the top of the city before ascending.
The first few days we spent in La Paz were finding our feet and visiting museums. The two that I would really recommend are the Museo de Instrumentos Musicales and the Centro Cultural-Musei San Francisco. The first one is really small but packed with amazing instruments, some which you can have a go on. Its located on the famous Calle Jaen. The second is the museum connected to the San Francisco church. The guides speak really good English and have lots of interesting facts on the church. There´s also great photo opportunities from the roof top.
It was Bolivians national day while we were in La Paz. We actually we´re going to visit Copacabana earlier but decided not to as apparently it becomes overcrowded at this time. There were lots of parades happening throughout the build up to the week, but unfortunitly it seems as though the majority of big celebrations were held in Sucre! We just missed out.
We stayed in the hostel Adventure Brew but in the annex. There are many hostels in La Paz that are strictly party hostels so we tried to avoid that. The hostel is nice and clean, you even get a free beer every night you stay. Its good beer as well as its from a micro brewery. The hostel is really convenient as its close to the central bus station.
We ate in the same place several times during our first trip to La Paz. The place is completely gringo but everything is delicious. Its called 100% Natural and its on gringo alley (Sagarnaga).
