Look on the green blanket... yeah.. they're lazy little kids
Well TODAY I had a morning shower, unknowingly that I would be having another one only 5 and a half hours later. Last day of food prep training today so should be doing something different for a change in no time! We’re getting through food prep quicker and quicker each day – it’s good in a way but then we have to look out for things to do between 10:30 and 12 when we have to feed our group of baboons. SO, during that hour/ hour and a half, we made the stupid decision of taking Frikkie, Gracie and Sophie for a walk. OH MY GAWD! They are mental – I know have my first cuts, bruises and drawn blood. Sophie acts as Gracie’s mother and is extremely protective of her. If Gracie’s upset then Sophie will run to her and protect her from whoever is nearest.
..and teach them a lesson while she is there. EVEN IF THEY DIDNT DO ANYTHING WRONG GOD-DAMMIT!! Sophie also has a tenancy of pulling Gracie off tree’s, out of people’s arms, and off fences to hold her close and keep an eye on her. She is one mental monkey, with major issues!
Some... actually a smidget of the bush between the farm and the village
We took them all out to a tree on the other side of the runway and let them run around for an hour. Before we got there I took Frikkie out until we got past Goeters’ area and the food prep dogs, and then the pigs. Sophie jumped off Alex and ran over to get the screaming Gracie out of Roné’s arms then walked around for a while, jumped on my back and shoulders while I still had Frikkie, pissed on my back, jumped off and pulled Frikkie down with her.
She is such a mole to the little baboon. Then when we were at the tree they were all fine. On the way back, Frikkie SHAT on me..SHAT on me! Stupid! Little! Baboon!
Sitting on the back of Cadbury
The Tree at Three meeting today was interesting. As for some unknown (yet) to me reason – no one likes horse riding. A lot of people who had been there longer than us swapped with us on food prep so WE could go out horse riding for the next 3 hours while they finish our 10 minute job of afternoon feeding. Before we left, we all moved over to the little animal graveyard and buried a baby Duiker (species of deer) who had died with lung complications before the vet arrived yesterday. The vet didn’t know exactly what caused it so sent off samples to her lab to find out for sure.
Everyone put a bit of dirt on it for the ‘funeral’ ceremony. So, horseback riding I hear you say?! YES DAD – I DID AND I HAVE PICTURES TO PROVE IT!! My abs started to feel it when we were walking the horses out afterwards, but I bet its nothing compared to the back of the poor horse I was on, haha. Hopefully it’ll be worth it, I didn’t even do that much. Corey used today as a ‘newbies’ to horse riding day and pretty much just taught us the basics, i.e. getting on the horse and controlling it. We didn’t leave the enclosure today but were told next time we would be. I began quite proud of myself being able to get on Cadbury by myself the first 2 times. The 3rd time, and after, I couldn’t. I don’t know what happened, the poor horse. I had to get a leg up and felt pretty embarrassed. 1. Because Cadbury is the smallest horse, and 2. I started off being able to get up on him!! He didn’t grow any!! I just wish I could do it! Grr!
Look at ALLLLLLLL that dust!! Im so pro lol... NOOOT
Schaalk is Marietta’s son who’s helping to run the Harnas farm.
He’s been in 3 world cups for rugby – South Africa obviously – and he’s accomplished for something else as well I think. I cant remember what though. Jo is his wife and they have 2 daughters and 1 son. Their youngest daughter is soooooo cute and totally a miniature version of her mum. We were to have dinner at the Lapa tomorrow night and it is themed as African cavemen and cavewomen. I had absolutely NO idea what I’m supposed to wear because I didn’t bring any clothes for that sort of thing. I had an idea that I should and could just do things with a lot of sticks and leaves and bones and stuff. And that I could totally just grunt for communication haha. Wonder how long I could hold that up for...
