A fond farewell to Prague

Prague Travel Blog › entry 45 of 151 › view all entries

I'm taking my wanderlust to a new level by shedding everything familiar and safe and hitting the road with a one way ticket and lots of guts. I start in Ireland, with planned stops in E. Europe before arriving in Egypt, then onto Tanzania for a Mt. Kili climb/safari before arriving in Zanzibar. From there, S. Africa, India, SE Asia, Australia/NZ, and eventually S. America. Afterward skidding home on fumes of glory, whereupon I will quickly be couch-surfing until I can land on my feet again.

A fond farewell to Prague

My favorite sandwich shop - yes, there are casings!
At my mother's request, I am writing to update my blog, but just to say I am alive in Prague and will be heading to Krakow tomorrow, where I will probably be staying for a few weeks.  It is even cheaper there than here and I need to catch up some on the budget, especially since I've decided to try running here and plunked down 100 bucks for some new shoes.  Oh well...to my health (need to cancel out all the cheap beer and sausage I've eaten the last few weeks)!

The last few days I've just really been chilling and wandering around Prague.  We found another great bookstore/coffee shop/bar that has become our second home.  We also went up to the Monastery on the hillpark near the Castle and checked out the old library there, which had a very large, preserved whale penis (sorry, no pics of that).

There is also a small Eiffel Tower wannabe here that we climbed yesterday.  Other than that, we've checked out two movies at the Open Air Cinema, including the Last King of Scotland and Clockwork Orange last night.  We met a couple from San Fran the first night and had drinks with them.

I really dig staying in a place for a few weeks, taking occasional day trips.  I will do the same in Krakow.  I've heard many a fine word about the place.

Today also marks my official two month mark on the road.  I've had some definite bouts of homesickness, usually following a phone call home (some of the sickness could be due to the impending phone bill!).  However, having a travel partner has helped, and my next travel buddy will be a familar face from home!

More news to follow from Poland...

Unbelievable. I was set to arrive in Prague this morning...we could've met up. Unfortunately, I caught tonsillitis over the weekend and had to delay. I get to Prague on Thursday! Argh. Well best of luck in Poland. Your trip is sounding amazing, and I cant wait to get mine started. Jak se mas!!
