Our home on the Mediterranean

I am now back on dry land after a four day cruise from Fethiye to Olympos.  Not too much to report from the trip.  The Mediterranean is beautiful with blues waters.  It is still rather warm this time of year and the water is so clear!  We spent our time eating (all great meals) - reading - swimming - sunning - napping - chatting - listening to the same CD over and over again and watching the scenery float by.  We did dock in a few towns along the way and site see a tad but I have never felt so lazy.  There were twelve of us guests on board and unfortunately it was all couples save for me and this guy from Canada so he became my adopt-a-boyfriend (more like brother really) for the trıp (we even had to share a cabin - with bunkbeds tho!).

The Crew
It was nice to have a companion outside of the couples at least.

There was one couple on board from Boulder CO that is truly inspiring.  They married in '74 and then traveled the world for three years (back then it cost them only 15 grand and they were able to go to places like Sudan and Iraq) and then came back and settled having their kids at 34.   That sounds like the way to do it in my book.  Anyway they still travel the world and are more exciting than even the young Aussie and Kiwi couples that were onboard but generally there were no wild late nights.  We did hit up the Smugglers Inn one night.  Some guy pulled up on a little boat and said he'd take us around the cove to a bar later so we agreed.  You would not believe there was a bar out there in the middle of nowhere.

Butterfly Valley
It was pretty darn cool I have to say but really dead.  There was a fire pit at least and then we chatted with the Germans from the boat next to ours who also got talked into going there.  After that and a bit of dancing we headed back to the boat.  Other than that the evenings were spent playing card games and backgammon - the natonal pasttime here.  My sister and I used to play it all the time when we were kids but I had to learn it all over again.  Watching the Turks play is really amazing.

We were the last boat cruise this season for the family running it as I forget it is already October and getting out of season.  The good thing is that means lower prices!

After that four of us (Canada and the CO couple) made our way onto Olympos and this place rocks.  It is the coolest place I have been by far.

Plotting our route
I am staying in a treehouse with a double bed inside - all to myself.   I get breakfest and dinner included and it is only 12 bucks a night.  What a deal!  This whole place is a village of treehouses and bungalows and cabins among pomegranite and orange trees.  I think that is the draw here because there is not much to Olympos.  But the beach nearby is on the Mediterranean and is a just quick walk down the road.  The place is pretty chill.  I can only imagine during high season the party atmosphere here but right now pretty quiet.  I will likely hang two or three nights to continue my "reenergizing before site-seeing" program on the beach and in the hammocks and then off to Cappadocia before I head back to Istanbul to catch my flight out next Monday.  So one more week in Turkey!
