Traveling feet...

Cesky Krumlov Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I'm taking my wanderlust to a new level by shedding everything familiar and safe and hitting the road with a one way ticket and lots of guts. I start in Ireland, with planned stops in E. Europe before arriving in Egypt, then onto Tanzania for a Mt. Kili climb/safari before arriving in Zanzibar. From there, S. Africa, India, SE Asia, Australia/NZ, and eventually S. America. Afterward skidding home on fumes of glory, whereupon I will quickly be couch-surfing until I can land on my feet again.

Traveling feet...

I remember taking a picture of my feet back in Inis Moor, Ireland.  Well, after a month and a half abroad, my nail polish is chipping, I'm sporting a good blister and I have the worst Chaco tan lines.  Time for a pedicure!

Amazing scenery, a maze of streets, and dungeons

A postcard waiting to happen
We've made it to the picturesque town of Cesky Krumlov.  The journey here was not without event, however.  Our bus driver was insane.  He cranked up a tape of some Czech polka music, which sounded like the same song over and over, and then drove like a nut, tailgating cars and passing people. Then we picked up some Greeks on the way, who didn't realize they were supposed to pay extra for their bags and just thought he was trying to rip them off, so a fight ensued in Czech, Greek and English, with the police showing up and them getting kicked off.  Good times.  The chaos of the bus ride was worth it, however!

We showed up here and our jaws just dropped. This town is nestled in the bend of a river, with a beautiful chateau perched up on a hill, a maze of side streets arranged in a circle, lots of character.

We found a bed, which was so cheap, and then walked around.  You can't really get lost here. We had drinks overlooking the river and then found another bar in a dungeon themed for Halloween. Dinner was also in a cave-like setting, with lots of armor hanging about. We had goblets of wine and appetizers, three types of meats and sides, all for like 25 bucks. You can't get that at home.

We plan to spend a few days here chilling.  This town is big on river activites, including canoes and kayaks.  I've already nixed the canoe idea and since I just collided with a tree while kayaking before I left, I'm a little shy on that, but we'll see.  Maybe some horseback riding?

Do you recall the name of the place you stayed while you were here?

Awesome photos... and I love the tanlines! Mine were like that in China, except there was dust and yuck ground in too!

Your blog is great Chris. You are so dedicated with the blog-ing that it makes it almost as good as traveling (well, maybe not that good, but good). You sound like you are relaxing, and taking it in pretty well!
