Mackay is a great place so far. It's basically a small town, population about 100 000 people now and I am finding my way around now as I get to know it. All I knew before was from short visits, so all I knew was the main places. The main industry here is Sugar Cane, which literally grows just down the road from me and all over the area. There are Mills here to process the sugar and a port where they load shipping tankers. Another big attraction are the coal mines west of here, especially a town called Moranbah where I grew up when Dad worked at the mines.
I am settling into my new job, although the hours are not good and the pay could be better, it is still work. And in 2 days I get my car, which will be great as getting around on my bike is a pain in the you know what. The distances to ride here are much greater and the day time temperature is still over 30 degrees. It has been getting cooler at night, maybe down to 20 or so, but the hot temps during the day means I always arrive places very hot and very sweaty!!! Apart from that, the weather has been great... rained for the first week, but the sun has been out since then.
And I finally went out and got my first tattoo, something I have wanted to do for a very long time... I finally decided what I wanted and to me this symbolises my time spent in Scotland last year which was a very important part of my life.
