My favorite Vacation Place
San Andres is an Island in the Caribbean that belongs to Colombia. Nicaragua and Colombia have been arguing about it for so many years that I dont even know if they settled. San Andres is closer to Nicaragua but they want to stay as part of Colombia. They have their own culture - they speak "patua" a mix of french,spanish and english. Also with the music you hear on the island is reggae music. Legend has it that the english Pirate Henry Morgan used to hide his treasures in San Andres.
The flight is 1hr and 45min from Cali. This was our favorite vacation destination. We usually went once or twice a year! I loved coming here with my family. We would spend the days @ the beach and the afternoons shopping. The big thing here was that San Andres is a "free port" so no taxes on imported goods!
The Ocean here is called "El mar de los 7 colores" (the sea of the 7 colors) and it is beautiful!
After I moved from Colombia I went back with 2 friends for a few days and shopping wasn't as good as I remembered but we still had a great time! I asked my friends living in Colombia and the best Club is Blue Deep(at the SUnrise Hotel) and the best reataurant to do some people watch and eat great pizza is CAFE CAFE.
A great day-trip from San Andres was Providencia Island which is one of the most beautiful places I've seen. You can stay in cabins here with the least technology possible(no phones or T.V.). A relaxing vacation with great beaches and great seafood.
