Well, today I went to Lantau Island to see the Tian Tan Big Bhudda statue near Po Lin monastery. It's the tallest sitting Bhudda in the world. The statue is 34m high, weighs 250 tons and is made of 202 bronze parts. It was completed in 1993.

To get to Lantau, I took the ferry to Discovery Bay. The ferry pier is near IFC mall. Takes you 20 minutes to get there. My friend Yoyo, who lives in DB, picked me up at the ferry pier. We went back to her home. They have a very nice view from their appartment at 21st floor. They even see the fireworks at Disneyland every evening.
After resting for a while, we - that is, Yoyo, her husband, her sweet little daughter, her helper and me - went to Tung Chung by bus.
Ngong Ping cable car station
The cable car station that goes up to Ngong Ping is located there. But before going up to the buddha, we had lunch at a nice chinese restaurant in the City Gate outlet mall. Again, the food was so delicious! *yummy!* After lunch, we headed to the cable car station, which is located just a few minutes from the mall. I've rided many cable cars in the Alps in Austria on my skiing trips, but this one's a very long ride, takes you about 20 minutes to go up there! Arriving on top of the hill at the end station I was kinda surprised - I didn't expect soooo many tourists and souvenir shops up there! Luckily, the weather was pretty fine and the sun came out... finally!
There are quite many steps up to the Bhudda... well, this way you get some exercise! ;-)
The big guy is quite impressive, sitting up there on his platform.
Guess what, they're going to have glass bottom cable cars now!
You also get a nice view of the surroundings, for example the old building of Po Lin monastary. But mainly you'll see LOTS of tourists, and somehow the place was a big construction area at the time.
After climbing down again, we were very lucky to watch a demonstration of Kung Fu by some Shaolin monks. Those guys are crazy! It was really exciting watching them, jumping and flying around... amazing!
After the show we went back to Tung Chung by cable car, where I took MTR to Hong Kong Island. My buddy Joe came over from his office in Shen Zhen to join me for the weekend. We had dinner at a japanese restaurant and as a dessert had some nice german Erdinger Weissbier at McSorleys pub in Lan Kwai Fong/Central.
Tomorrow we are going to Macau!
