Youth Hostel Piero Rotta

I have suffered a number of long term delays to my plans to take ‘a Grand Tour’, so when the opportunity to get a little late season skiing done in the Süd Tirol I seized it with both hands and then some.

Big, but not Necessarily Beautiful
This is a big and popular Hostel, which is located near the San Siro, so perfect if you are wanting to see the football. It was however quite some distance from the train station and involved an expensive taxi ride across the town to get there.

Facilities were generally pretty good, with a constantly manned reception. All staff seemed fairly friendly, efficient and of course able to speak a number of languages.

Breakfast is included in the price which makes it very reasonable indeed. It is a basic continental breakfast, and you are required to pay for extras. This is served in a functional and large breakfasting room. There are several other communal rooms, but it is sadly lacking any wireless internet connection. There is however a pay as you go internet terminal.

It was fairly clean but not especially clean, the showers all seemed to work adequately well, and did not require you to move around to actually get wet.

It was a bit noisy at night with other hostellers generally seeming to come and go into all hours. I could not blame the hostel for the guy snoring on the bunk below me though!

There seemed to be quite a large proportion of more mature hostellers staying here too, it must be advertised in the right publications for them.
It has a cafe culture.
An uninspiring entrance
Who is on tidying up duty?
Again it doesn't inspire.
Vending machines and messages.
Somebody going up for second hel

I've never done the Hostel gig, Altho I know I am missing out on another type of travel experience for sure. I've thought about it the next time I go to NY, Yeah?!
