Happy New Year!

Despite arriving at 8pm in Puerto Varas, we had a really nice New Year´s Eve. Despite on arrive being told "There is a BBQ tonight......" (HURRAY!!!) ".......But you had to have purchased food and the shops are now all shut" (BOO!!!!) we managed to find somewhere tha didn´t look as suitable as some of the resturants that were all booked-up already. However, despite looking like a bit of a high-street UK bar, it delievered at fantastic 4 course dinner with all drinks included (although we didn´t know that all drinks were included until afterwards, so we didn´t take full advantage!). We then went down to the waterfront to watch the fireworks.
Despite Puerto Varas being a very sleepy little town on the edge of the lakes and being overshadowed by the (extinct) Orsorno Volcano, it has a family feel and thousands gathered to wait for the fireworks.
Puerto Varas didn´t have an awful lot else to do, everywhere was shut on New Years Day, expect for the cafe that brought us a giant tin of Nescafe and some hot water when we asked for a coffee! We certainly felt that one day there was enough before we moved-on. Our next destination was Chiloe - the biggest island of the hundreds that dot along the vast length of Chile.
