A Farewell to (Plaza de) Armas (no photos, just boring words I´m afraid!)

We took the overnight bus from Cuzco to Arequipa which arrived in Arequipa 2 hours ahead of schedule (I think they make-up how long the journey´s take here!!!) but managed to wake-up the staff at our hostel (that we hadn´t actually booked anyway!) an let us in!
We stayed in the same Hostel in Arequipa again, which is like an oasis and did very little around Arequipa other than wander, people watch, have nice food and work-out what we were going to do next. We had to wait around to get a bus to Tacna - a decent bus, we could have got one of the famous "chicken buses" of Peru (look that up on google and you´ll be horrified) for about 32p but the safety and comfort are worse than even the dismal National Express coaches of the UK!
We made it down to the border with Chile and across in the most civilised manner (not like the heavily fortified border Jeremy took between Peru and Bolivia 5 years ago which had conscript soldiers draped with machine-gun bullet belts that surely were too young to grow a moustache or have a legal drink!) and hopped across to Arica, our first stop in the first of 3 planned entries into Chile...............
