It was a "typically Argentine" end to our near 2 month trip through in Argentina!  We had booked the lakes-crossing to Chile with a night half-way across in a hotel to leave from Bariloche - we had booked at taxi to pick us up from our hostel at 6:30 to ensure that we got to the station in good time for the appointed 7:15 start.  We were awakend at 5:25 with a knock on our door to see if we were ready - unbeknownst to us, they had changed the clocks in Argentina so our "5:25am" was actually 6:25am, which was shock!!!! Luckily we packed all our stuff the night before so it wasn´t too much of a panic!  the next bit was typically Argentine as well - when we got there at 7am, we waited, then waitied until eventually things started to get moving at about 8:30am - the usual shambles!!!

Eventually, we got going on the boat towards our hotel - Hotel Puerto Blest, which is towards the border with Chile.

The Hills are Alive........
Unfortunately, after about 20 days of fantastic weather it hammered down with rain and the mist meant that there was little visibility to enjoy the scenery (which we paid a fair amount to do!)!!!  Still, we arrived at our hotel to find that although there were dozens of people there for lunch, we seemed to be the only people staying overnight there (there is the option to do it all in one day)!  It was great though as we had the best room in the hotel (for a change!) with an amazing view of the lake.  Typically Argentine - the scenery was beautiful and most tranquil.

Typically Argentine again, when we went-down for dinner, no-one came to serve us for 45 minutes!!  Still, we had 2 kitchen staff, a waiter and receptionist all to deal with us only so they must have been rushed-off their feet!!  Still, it was great to have a good quite place to stay after the dreadfully noisy place that was pakced with obnoxious and ignorant Israelies (we haven´t met any Israelies travelling in groups who haven´t been though) that left us with no sleep as they shouted and screamed in the lunge that was next to our room!

The next day we walked through the forest to get the next boat towards Chile.

We were sad to get our exit stamps and finally leave Argentina for the last time - it has been an amazing time there (despite many frustrations like the state of the food and the noise!) and we have really loved it here.  we would recommend it to travellers of all ages with all sorts of different interests.

The visibility improved and we saw a whole lot more of the scenery - it was breathtaking in some places.

We arrived at Punta Varas at 8pm on NYE.
