Adios South America!

Wow. We blinked and the last 3 and a half months just whizzed-by! This evening we will be taking our flight to Auckland and starting the couple of months that we have there.
Our travels thoughout South America have been a wonderful experience - we met such fantastic fellow travellers and of course, the people of South America. The way that we were welcomed and treated by 99.9999% (excluding about half of the taxi drivers and their dodgy arithmatic and knowledge of only the "long way round" routes!) of people was simply fantastic and overwhelming.
We wish that we could return and see more of Peru already - despite the haunting poverty (which we saw in most of the places we visited) and some of the terrible destruction of the earthquake that occured only weeks before our arrival, the people had such a bright outlook on life and it was such a culturally rich place. Even when we went around the poorest and most deprived place that we have both ever seen, the people were really pleased to meet us and so many people smiled even when on the surface of it, there was little to be happy about and the impoverished shop owner who insisted on keeping us supplied with drinks as we worked shifting rubble in Pisco was very touching.
We would like to thank everyone from our former colleagues at our former jobs - East Devon PCT and Ty Hafan, who made collections for us. We gave the money to the earthquake project in Pisco and to the Tomilla, Arequipa Mission and Father Giovanni Cefai's work and we know that the money will be used in the best way possible. We would also like to thank everyone else who has donated to Fr Giovanni after reading about our visit - we cannot state clearly enough how amazed we were by the work at the Mission and the outlook that Fr Giovanni had despite the daunting task that he has undertaken for the last 5 years / as well as the huge acheivements that have been made.
Any information as to the project or how you can send a cheque in the UK, please leave a message on the blog or email us and we will get back to you.
Thanks everyone for all the kind messages while we are on our travels! We'll be doing a new blog of our trip through NZ!
