Travel makes you appreciate where you live, so I am currently re-exploring my own town and want to share it with my travbuddies.

My first film festival

Apres Diem

Haha as I re-read over the journal entry, I laugh over how hard I tried to write as if I was a film connosier... oh well. I had the fun of a novice, of a care-free kid discovering a new world...

ATLFF 365 - Atlanta Film Festival 365

Conversations with moviemakers at Starbucks - 4-6pm. "The Evening Sun", taken from the short story, "I Hate to See the Evening Sun Go Down" by William Gay (Georgia author). Ray McKinnion, actor/producer; Walton Goggins, actor (cute if not cocky); Scott Teems, director.

6pm, Apres Diem (see review)... sitting with a Chardonney buzz, I listen to the chatter at the next table from filmmakers and their patronizing patrons. I've managed to spill my wine and get ink all over my hand, but the waitress (was she hitting on me? lol) was great, as was the busboy.

I'm about to go see the "Animation Shorts II", but it doesn't start until 8:30, so I have an hour and a half... ha. Thanks to all the flirting, the busboy got me another glass of wine.

The converstaions with the filmmakers at Starbucks was cool - a panel setup. After I went into a toy shop and found a fabulous selection of Playmobile (favorite childhood toy) and puzzles (current quirk). I love this sort of chill day. I feel selfish but in a peaceful and I-don't-really-care sort of way.

A man with an incredible head of dreads just walked in - some standing straight up :).

7:45pm... I maneuvered my way in past the ticket-grabbers and bought a COOL shirt and then stood in line, chatting with other animation-lovers and dodging the beginning spring drizzle raindrops.

The animation shorts were great... very fun and short, so we saw about 15! My favorite was this movie about a little animal that gets lost in a city... "Varmints" (http://atlanta.bside.com/2009/films/varmints_atlanta2009). I also talked to a chick named Jeanette and promised to come back tomorrow night and volunteer.
