Last day in windy Toronto
I got up Friday morning and had more pancakes, only this time a random guy walked up to me (as I sleepily realized the hostel didn't have coffee) and handed me a plate of big pancakes. "you want?" Okayy... so then he followed me to my table and we talked about Mexico, and I discovered (without too much surprise) he was hungover and had already had a few this morning.
My new French and Aussie friends joined me and we left to unsuccessfully search for postcards early on Good Friday. However, we did enjoy our walk through Chinatown and the University of Toronto. After checking out and locking up my backpack in a locker, we left again for the CN tower with an Argentine guy from the hostel. I ended up walking around town with the Argentine instead (it was $38 to go to the top of the tower, plus a huge line) and we discussed Reggae, politics, and travels.
When we all returned to the hostel we were starved, so we set off to find a place to eat. This time we walked the opposite direction on King's street and wandered up and down random streets, until we found a little hidden vegetarian cafe. It was my first time to eat vegetarian sausage, but I had it and an egg, potatoes, and a great cup of free-trade coffee amid hippie folks and a very chill environment. Back at the hostel I rested and then went out again to find an internet cafe, which we eventually found above a Starbucks on Queen's. Apparently everyone in Toronto had woken up by then, because the streets were full and I was able to sit and watch the cultures mix and clash and enjoy the swarm of humanity.
I picked up my bags at the hostel and walked back to Union Station, then boarded the train for Windsor. The ride wasn't as quiet as the first one (2 ladies in the back talked loudly about everything they pleased), but i was able to relax. When I arrived in Windsor, my friends picked me up and we went for a drink at the Pour House, which was pretty cool and my gin and tonic was only $4. It was crowded but well-run.
