Arrival in Detroit and introduction to Windsor
I arrived in Detroit’s tiny airport (I am so proud of Atlanta) and picked up my bags without any problem. My friend picked me up in her tiny Jetta and we drove through Detroit’s Mexican town and I watched the Lebonese. The Canadian Border Guard took my passport and asked how much my ticket cost?? J and suddenly we were in the quaint village of skateboarders. I soon discovered they are very modern and diverse, full of Lebonese, Poles, Italians, Serbs, French, Brits, not to mention Americans and the Canadians. The accent is fun " bump into someone and you’ll hear the adorable “sOrrry” that makes me realize I’m in the land of Anne of Green Gables.
We went to a great Asian place for dinner " “Chanosso’s”* where I had their “Asian fajita wrap” with sautéed veggies, cheese, marinated chicken, in a grilled tortilla. We walked around searching for a pub where we didn’t have to wait in line (apparently since the Canadian drinking age is 19, all the American teens from Detroit come over here). It was a little chilly with the wind coming off the Detroit River, so I was glad when we ducked into the eclectic club “The Loop”* for their famous (potent) “purple drink” and pool tables, lazers, disco ball, and dancing. It was generally a pretty young local crowd, but it was a fun experience. It started to fill up as we left at about midnight, but we were wiped out. I’ll try to take pictures on Monday when I take out on foot to explore…

I went here with friends (one of whom is on a healthy kick) who told stories of an amazing pumpkin cheesecake and stirfries. Actually, one friend was crazy about the place and the other wasn't. However, once we arrived I was impressed with the very classy black-and-white waiters and waitresses in the wood-paneled room, complete with a chandelier, paintings, and one uber-cool door that had a bookshelf-facade on the front of it. We sat at a table by the front windows on the street, so we could watch as everyone wondered in and out of the Lebonese sandwich shops and strutted into clubs (there is one above Chanoso's and one below).
I ordered a great Asian fajita wrap, my questioning friend had a chicken curry stirfry, and the Chanoso's fan had the famous pumpkin (and chocolate drizzled!) cheesecake, after of course her shrimp rolls. Everything was great.

Note: the "medium" sized drink is small by American standards, only about 6 oz... but it's so good it's definately worth the decent price. I just can't wait to go back tomorrow...
