Shortly after breakfast we left to the city of Haparanda
On the way we visited the unbelievable and huge Storforsen cataracts, which are a rapid in the Pite River
After our lunch in a local restaurant we went to the salmon leap, the Fällforsen that is a neat place to enjoy the full charm of Swedish nature.

A magnificient scenery
These rapids in the Pite River are the biggest untamed waterfalls in Sweden and one of the most adventurous places in Scandinavia!
The Storforsen Nature Reserve is truly stunning and almost a must especially for flora and fauna lovers but even if you have a more cautious sense of pure nature you’ll be astonished!
These gigantic rapids were formed about 8500 years ago when the icy surroundings looked quite different and you would never ever have imagined today's extraordinary scenery.
250 cubic metres/sec. of water are transported down the valley on average but during midsummer, when the melted snow has to be transported as well, the normal flow is increased to 850 cubic metres/sec. – guess you could easily call the Storforsen rapids ‘Swedish Niagara Falls’.
Just stop by and enjoy the awesome atmosphere along the fenced shore! Footbridges, lookouts and picnic/barbecue areas take care of the whole package of easy-going ambiance surrounded by rushing water.
Although the Storforsen waterfalls are seen by many locals and international tourists you won’t feel squeezed like a cuddly toy so that you have the opportunity of relaxing without the odd feeling of trepidation.
So, now it’s your turn – visiting this Nature Reserve that has to be preserved and savouring a very unique miracle of nature is worthwhile, no doubt!
