Uneo Park
After shopping, we took the subway towards Uneo park, a place Lee had visited 10 years ago. Walking there from the subway station, we passed several casinos where Pachinko was featured, a kind of Japanese slot-machine type gambling device. There was another shopping district there, called "Ameyayohocho", which used to be a "black market" area, but is now legit. Everything from clothing, to fish, to electronics, to fruit were available at these streetside stands. I bought some large strawberries on a stick here for 200 yen. (does all food here come on a skewer?) I also found some nice silk scarves here for Dawn. Couldn't find and bolts of cloth (she's a quilter..nothing would make her happier!) but she should be happy with these.
Uneo Park is kind of like Central Park, Japanese style. There was a wide assortment of both tourists and locals, as well as street musicians, statues, temples, and the occasional odd cat scurrying by. I would have liked to spend more time there, but my three traveling companions felt it was too much like Central park to bother with. There were some temples and a Bhudda statue there that I never got to see. We hopped in another cab and headed to the electronics district.
