On my way! At the New Haven Train Station

Well, it was a scramble to get everything packed and ready in time (it always is!) and a missing sneaker delayed me enough that I missed the train I intended to take.  (really, how do you lose ONE sneaker?!)  Not a big deal, though, we are flying out tomorrow, tonight I am just crashing at my friend Lee's apartment in Manhattan,  so we can hit JFK airport in the morning.  It was pouring rain out as I drove to the New Haven train station.  Neither Dawn nor Tyler is joining me this time, just Me, Lee, and Dave (The 3 of us went to Asia together 3 years ago, but not Japan or China) and we will also be joined by Doug, who is a friend of Lee and Dave, who I haven't met yet.   Dawn joined me on the ride to New Haven, so she could take my truck for the week.

On the train to NY...delayed one hour due to the biggest 24 hour rainfall in NY in the past 30 years!
We noticed flooding along the highway, and rivers where there were never rivers before!  I hope all this weather doesn't affect our flight!  Dawn and I said our goodbyes, and I hurried inside the station before getting soaked.  Bought my ticket from a vending machine, and got half a Subway sub sandwich to tide me over til dinner.

The train left New Haven on time, but we had a 40 minute stop in Bridgeport for unknown reasons.  I found out later from the conductor that all but one of the tracks were closed due to a retaining wall that had collapsed from the rain!  He said not to worry, they would get us there even if they had to hire a bus!   Fortunately, that wasn't necessary, but we were almost an hour behind schedule. I called Lee when we were almost there, and he met me at Grand Central Station.

We grabbed a cab, who dropped us off at a conveniance store so Lee could buy beer, then we walked the last block to his apartment...glad I packed my umbrella!  Lee's girlfriend Emily had dinner ready for us when we got there...pasta with sauce and mushroom pierogi's...yum!

Lee unfolded his pull-out couch for me...he said it was the first time it had been opened since the last time I stayed here, three years ago. (His overnight guests are usually female...and don't sleep on the couch!)

Thank god it was a retaining wall that had collapsed. I was afraid they had run over someones lost sneaker and derailed a train! :)
