a midweek Germany, Oberhambach
Monday afternoon 31 of March 2009 at 15.00 hours we finally could leave to our vacationadress for a midweek. Wim had to work till then unfortunatly and I had to do some things too. We hoped we had a good trip without delay on the way but you never know in rush hour. We googled our journey on googlemaps for the fastest road and that was through Breda, Antwerp, Luik, Bitburg, Trier and finally our destination Oberhambach. And we were lucky, it was quiet on the road. So after 4 hours driving (19.00 hours) we were there. A little tired we unpacked our bags and took some nice drinks on the terras. We eat lasagna in our cottage and after a nice warm bath and some tv watching we peacefully fell asleep.
The next day I woke up early at half past 6 and went downstairs for a nice cup of tea and biscuits and sat down with a lovely romantic holiday pocket of "Bouquet Reeks" and watched the sun come up. What a great way to begin the vacation!! After freshing up I went to the bakery to get fresh bakked "kaiser brötchen" and a quarter of an hour later we had a lovely breakfast. Then we went on the road with some scenic views to the lovely old city of Trier on the beautiful river of "Der Mosel" and explore the city and surroundings. We went there a couple of times already but we didn't have digital photo's of it and it was more than ten years ago so it was time to go there again.
What a lovely weather we had! The sun was shining all day and it was really springtime!! We explore a lot of those scenic villages along the river and especially "Bernkastel-Kues" which is a beautiful village and also very touristic.
But not in this season, in the summer it's very crowded! Bernkastel has a special place in my hart because my family and I always go here with the hole family (parents, grandparents , even aunt's, uncle's, nephews and nieces etc) at the Whitsun vacation. Sometimes even with the summerholiday. We were staying on the small campside of "Frau Prüm" on the river Mosel in "Wehlen" and we had such lovely times there!!! My uncle had a inflatable boat (zodiac)with outboard motor and we crossed all over the river. That was awesome!!! Frau Prüm and her children had their own vineyard on the mountain against the campside and her wine was excellent!! But maybe we were prejudiced" Unfortunatly she past away a couple of years ago and her children didn't keep the vineyard and the campside but we have some lovely memories there. And every five years I have the feeling that I want to see that surroundings again.Anyway, after visiting Bernkastel-Kues and surroundings we went back to the vacationparc and after a couple of drinks on the terras, we had a lovely dinner buffet in the restaurant that night.
The Mosel surroundings are so beautiful! And another tip: There's lots on offer for wine lovers and connoisseurs: Wine and vintners' festivals along the Moselle between May and November, and the grand Wine & Gourmet Festival from April to May. Trier's Classics festival and the Moselle Festival also feature among the highlights of the cultural calendar in the summer months.
