First Day and a Half … Sydney …

After an interesting night of sleep (I think each of us woke up several times), we had breakfast and were headed for the ferries by 8:45 am. We had a tip from fellow passenger “Cleo” (Mimi found out later that, no, his name was Cliff!) that the zoo was really good.
So we took the 15 minute ferry ride across the bay to the Taronga Zoo. Our plan was to just hit the Australia section to be sure to see all the animals that are indigenous to this continent. We got to see kangaroos and wallabies close enough to touch almost, kookaburras, koalas, some amazing birds, and a bunch of (what we ended up calling) various “rats” that they have here (like billbies and gliders). The zoo is built on a hillside, so we decided to put Liz in a wheelchair and push her around to help save energy for her. This beautifully clear and perfect day was really wonderful. Due to delays in transportation, we didn’t end up being able to see the very very old waterfront called The Rocks that has lots of renovated shops and cafes. We ended up just popping into a couple of souvenir type shops right by the pier.
The ship departed at 2 pm from Sydney. We got back and, besides dinner that night, got to hot tub and also relax in the thalassotherapy (think “salt water meets spa“) pool. Very relaxing and it made us feel special!
