Day 1 @ Prague - exploring the city :)
March 28, 2009
Our flight to prague left at 7 in the morning so we needed to get up very early like 4 am pfff since we needed to check in 2 hours before, we arrived in prague at 8:30 and we took a cab to our hotel/pension. We had a nice room, very big one too at least from what im used too it was big :P, although the floor carpet was really dirty.. anyways we put down our luggage and just went out to take the first tram to the city centre and go explore :). It only took us like 10 min to get to namesti republiky a small square which has some nice buildings and also one of the new and very large shopping centre in prague, called palladium. So we decided to first explore this shopping centre, first thing we saw when getting inside was STARBUCKS, yes! haha i could use some coffee since i had only a few hours of sleep.
after a nice coffee we continued exploring the palladium, which is really a big place with over 200 shops (if i remember correctly) devided over 5 floors, at the top floor there are all kinds of bars and nice little restaurants, so kinda like heaven for woman haha :) seriously if you ever go to prague for shopping the palladium is the place to be. After the palladium we continued our exploring trip to the next square the biggest one in the city centre called starometstske namesti. what is really nice about the centre of prague is that is has all these small streets with little shops and bars/restaurants also a lot of houses/buildings are very colourfull like pink, yellow, blue and white. when we got to the square there was this really nice easter market, which was really nice they even had a very big easter tree haha.
afcourse we wanted to see all that so we had a look, and they had these really nice and tasty looking czech snacks, since we still needed lunch we tried a few of those and they were really nice! Around the square are a few very nice looking churches and also the old town hall, which has the astronomical clock on it, which is a really tourist attraction, after lunch we decided to take a look at the clock, it was really funny to see hundreds of tourist waiting to see the clock do its thing lol it was like 5 minutes before it would be 2 o clock and literally everyone was standing there with camera's ready to go and take picture and films of the clock :D. well since we wanted to see it too we joined the club and waited to see what was gonna happen.
at 2 all kinds of bells started ringing and above the clock 2 doors opened and all 12 apostles came out to say hi :) which was fun. the clock itself is really nice to see too and absolutely worth visiting, also you can go up the tower of the town hall which we did and from there you had an amazing view of prague with all the red rooftops and nice churches. after making some nice pictures we went down again and explored some more little streets in the city centre, and finally we went to the charles bridge which is the bridge to the otherside where the prague castle is.
we didnt go to the otherside, we made some nice picture of the bridge and the castle and went back to the easter marker to try some more snacks since we were hungry again haha, also tried a czech beer called Urquell which was really good and cheap too! ow ye prague is cheap, 25 Kc is 1 euro and for example a 0,5 ltr beer is 25 Kc so only 1 euro for halve a liter beer, most snacks we had were also only 25-50 Kc. SInce we were kinda tired of all the walking that day and since we only had a few hours of sleep we stopt our exploring trip and just sit down at a nice restaurant outside on the terrace and had soem more beers, funny thing is the beers on the terrace are much more expensive like 90 Kc about 3,60 euro. so some advice to all people going to prague if you have a beer, on the terrace outside a restaurant you pay triple the price while inside the restaurant its normal price of 25 Kc. after a few extra beers we wanted to have dinner so we ordered some nice meals, restaurant in prague arent expensive depending on what you eat afcourse but most of the time you can have a nice meal for 400-600 Kc including 2 drinks which is like 16-24 euros, BUT you have to pay for everything, meaning if you use salt and peper which is on the table you havce to pay for it extra like 15 Kc, also things like ketchup etc also costs like 25 Kc extra for using it, most of the time there is also bread or other snacks on the table and afcourse if you eat some of it you pay for it about 50-70 Kc, also you have to add up like 10% service costs at the end of your meal when paying the bill some restaurants already put it on the receipt but some dont and they dont and its common to give 10% tip.
After our dinner we went back to the hotel for a goodnight sleep :)
