Day 2: our final day in Amsterdam
March 15, 2009
After a long night of touring, the Heineken Experience and long walks in the city we needed the sleep and a good breakfast. The hotel included a breakfast buffet for 10 euros that was one of the best I have ever had in Europe. It featured the usual meats, cheese, bread, juice and fruit but this buffet went beyond the ordinary and offerred bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and numerous varieties of yogurt. It was awesome. After we ate we checked out of the hotel, dropped our bags at the counter and headed out to continue touring the city. If there is only one place you see in Amsterdam it has to be the Rijksmuseum. This is a great museum with beautiful statues and imposing wrought iron gates at the entrance. Once you are inside it is filled with paintings from Dutch master's like Rembrandt and Vermeer. This was a good way to spend a couple of hours. After leaving the Rijk we headed toward the Rembrandt plaza and shopping near the plaza. We ended up picking up the car at 3 pm and heading back home to Germany. Clara drove and at one point was doing 110 in an 80 kph construction zone so we are waiting to get that ticket. That is another story for another time. The main thing is we will always have fond memories of good times with old and new friends in Amsterdam.
