We collected our car from National's depot in Cambridge. It was a brand new (700 miles on the clock) wine-red coloured Chevrolet Impala.
The trip actually wasn't bad at all! It involved staying on the same road for a long, long, long time though, all the way from Boston to Buffalo, NY! We swapped driving duties every two hours or so which made it a lot easier, and we dined in an amazing establishment called McDonalds :D At the border the customs officer had some trouble understanding why we were coming back to Canada for the second time in the space of a month, especially since I was on a J1 visa and Jill on a holiday visa! (The customs officer on the way back was fascinated by the fact that we were Irish students driving from Boston to Toronto and back, couldn't believe it for some reason!) On the way we saw a strange line of school buses on the road.
On arrival we parked the car in a multi-storey and headed off to see the falls! We stopped at the first viewing point to have a look and take some pictures, and it was truly breathtaking! We were lucky with the weather, it was a glorious day, and this allowed us to get some very nice photos! There are some other attractions at Niagara Falls, but we were there only to see the falls themselves, especially as were constrained by time! We decided that we'd head down and do the journey beneath the falls, which allowed us to head in through damp caves under the falls, where we could hear the constant sound of the falls above us! There were a few viewing points where we could see the falls flooding down, and at first we thought that was all we were going to see, until we got to the outside area, where we really needed those ponchos they gave us! It was truly amazing! We looked to the right and saw the falls almost flooding down on top of us, with the mist from the splash soaking us! We got to see the falls on the American side with a beautiful rainbow dissecting it! I had a blonde moment, when I went out with my hood down, and then put it up because I was getting wet, the hood was already filled with water so it gave my hair a good rinse! :)
After doing the journey through the falls, a lot of the day had passed.
