LA Central Farms
April 5, 2006
Lots of non-profits raised money for it, Darryl Hannah climbed a tree to defend it.. Here are a couple of pictures taken with my camera phone just weeks before it was finally closed down and repossessed by a horrible, horrible developer who abandoned and then stole the property in a closed court session when the farmers had just collected enough money to buy it outright.
Luckily, a few weeks before this occured, my co-worker Matt held a Manifesto writing workshop on the property to organize and bring a sense of purpose to a collective of farmers, locals and friends. Education really is power, and it's wonderful that we live in a place where you can hear all sides of a story and figure out what is true and what to do from there.
And it was wonderful that we came here to this serene place to write, or at least start a personal manifesto and learn about this style of writing. It's very personal, and it's a great way to document your call to action. Souls like Matt are rare and precious.
