Today we made the big trip across the border into Malaysia. We were quite sad to leave Krabi as we had enjoyed it quite a lot!
We went in minivans and were they mini or what!!! We were in two back seats and the air con didnt work very well. So for 5 hours we were cramped up and sweating away!
We arrived at Hat Yai which we had heard alot about not travelling there due to Islamic fights against Buddhists but we had no problems at all. It was just like a normal town. We changed buses here to go to the border and got stamped out of Thailand no problems. We then changed buses for a third time and went to get our Malaysian visa which again caused no problems and then started on the last leg of the journey to Georgetown on Penang.
We are staying on Love Lane which is in the centre of china town in George Town. We also are close to Little India so had an awsome curry there this evening!
We had a money scare this afternoon! We arrived with about ten pounds to our name and headed out to get some cash. There are only ATMs in branhes of banks here, there dont seem to be any along the street or at 7-11. So we trekked across town to the shopping centre and both of the largest banks in Malaysia wouldn't give us any money whatsoever!! Uhoh! We asked around and were told that there were no other banks which really scared us! Eventually we found a few more the other side of Little India after walking for about 45 minutes and the relief was immense when we were given money! Hurrah we can afford to sleep in a room and eat!!!
