So we arrived in KL this morning after an interesting bus ride. They seem to have a strange ticketing system here. Everyone who already has tickets gets on and they have allocated seats. No problems there then. If you dont have a ticket you can then wait and see if there are any spaces at which point it is every man for himself and those who push hardest get a seat. Those who don't have to stand. So the ailse was full of people standing on this long distance bus journey! It also went through some pretty windy bumpy roads. We were fine but just our luck they guy next to us wasn't. He spent a while being sick into a clear plastic bag and then felt the need to hang it off the edge of his seat. Nice.
We headed to a guesthouse that Lonely Planet recommended for its 'Bohemian atmosphere'. It also had cheap rooms. Well 'bohemian' actually meant shithole that hadn't been decorated or even cleaned since its heyday which may have been in the 1970's. The mattresses were filty and the sheets didn't fit. There was a sizeable dead cockroach under the bed and a live one in the tv area. We are pretty sure that we shared the bed with some sort of creepy crawlie as Jamie was covered in bites when he woke up! There was a random guy who wasn't staying there or living there who just hung around and slept on the sofa. On entering you notice the fairly heady smell of weed. So we checked out sharpish the next day!
Didn't really get upto much, just checked out the Petronas Towers for tomorrow and looked for a new guesthouse!! the one we found is more than we would usually spend but we weren't having much luck!
