A visit to China...

Hong Kong Plaza - lots of Chinese stores and restaurants inside

Ok, not Big China, but Rowland Heights, which is almost China!  I managed to get ...several flat tires a once, and was towed to Rowland Heights.  I've explored around before, and it's very Chinese.  There are whole subdivisions with Chinese street signs.  You can find whole stripmalls of restaurants where none of the waiters speak English.  It's really cool.

I of course walked around like a tourist taking pictures while they fixed my truck, until security kicked me out for "looking suspicious"...

I got some lunch at ...a Chinese restaurant.  Apo-Apo (with a kind of reversed Apple computer logo for the logo)  Pretty good "dry noodles with leek and bean" which was really sort of like yaki soba with green onions and beansprouts.  The only vegetarian item on any menu in the area!

With another hour to kill, I amused myself checking the percentage of restaurants in walking distance with a "B" or lower health rating.

Apo-Apo
Now, in LA, there is a rating system of A, B, or C for restaurants, based on a sanitary inspection.  You should have an "A", but if you miss over 10% of the standards, you have to display a "B" in your window for a month, I think.  Worse than that is a "C" which means that you failed so bad that you have some number of days to fix the problems, or you loose you're licence.  Well, out of I think 25 restaurants....

0 "A" ratings,

22 "B" ratings, and

3 with less than a "B"

Ok, it's a little scary...  I'd think that just a grumpy inspector had gone trough, but it's always been like that when I've visited.  Having had a restaurant myself at one time, I know how tough the inspections are - they're always getting you for having the wrong shaped faucet or something - but it's hard to ALWAYS get a "B" or worse!  I'm guessing that there's some common food preparation problem where Chinese cooking doesn't meat some specific American health standard.  The LA health department is pretty harsh too, check out their list of Restaurants they've shut down (note that it loads very slowly...)

I'm glad you liked it! Aw I wish I could've went..Currently my gas funds don't let me cross over rancho cucamonga lines anyway..but yeah, my favorite is the crispy little fish and the fried chicken nuggets dish, and also that red bean cake dessert!

I liked it! Should have asked if you wanted to go too... I'll have to go back tomorrow night to try something else, it's right where I come out of the hills at the end of the days.
