Our arrival in Maliana went without ceremony.  The first issue was finding our Hotel (the Filo Mena –see review) then we went to the Maliana station.  There were a few Dili vehicles and staff wandering around looking confused.  After I discovered they had been that way for 20 minutes or more I decided to seek out the District Commander.  I introduced myself to him and we chatted about immediate plans and process of accommodation.  As I was reporting this to the others my Maliana Traffic Team Leader came up to confirm who I was and introduce himself to me.  I had mentioned in my email yesterday that I would spend some time with him, going over his weekly statistical report (the bane of my existence) so we discussed that briefly and HU and I headed out into the city for a look around and then went back to the Filo Mena to chill until we were to return for briefing at 1600hrs.

Mike (NZ Contingent Commander) was also booked into the Filo Mena and when I saw him arrive he told me everyone at the station was talking about the Chief of Traffic being in town.  I wondered what kind of fortune my small fame would bring me in the next few days.

At 1600hrs we all gathered at the station to be told the briefing would be 1600hrs tomorrow and we were to report to work at 0800hrs.  All in all I think the Bobonaro election adventure had started very satisfactorily!
