The Scent of Jack Fills the Air
If you’re going to Lynchburg, the Jack Daniels distillery is highly recommended. It’s really the only thing to see in the whole town. The smell of the alcohol fills the air. The catch is, Lynchburg is a dry county so if you buy JD you must have it shipped back to your house.

Bed and Breakfast with Friendly Owners
The Tolley House Bed and Breakfast in Lynchburg, Tennessee is a relaxing getaway with friendly owners. The first thing I noticed when I pulled up was that the inn looks the way I picture a bed and breakfast in my mind. It’s a white, wood house with columns and a front porch with rocking chairs. On the right side of the house is a gravel parking lot. When you walk in the front door, a bold red foyer leading upstairs and guest check-in table greet you. To the right of the front door is the formal dining room, which is decorated with milk glass and black and white, paisley wallpaper. To the left is a traditional parlor decorated with accents like an old wedding gown, china tea set and chandelier. Although the parlor walls are painted bold red, the accents are mostly muted champagne colors.
The bed and breakfast only has two rooms, both of which are located adjacent to each other on the first floor. The second floor is blocked off from guest use since that is where the owners reside. If you go, stay in Miss Ethel’s room. It is decorated in pink, white and light green with antiques all around the room. Miss Ethel’s room includes a private sitting area with a tv, books and magazines. The other room, Mr. Lem’s room is done in dark colors, like green and navy, with a creepy, mounted fish on the wall. It’s very dated and I wouldn’t recommend it, although it is clearly more masculine than Miss Ethel’s room.
The owners are wonderful. They were so friendly and welcoming to both my husband and myself. They were probably the friendliest innkeepers I have come across, yet I did not feel as though they were all up in my business. Not to mention, they cook a yummy, full breakfast that varies each morning. During breakfast, the innkeepers would sit with us and chat. They would offer advice about the area and tell us good places to visit. On a couple occasions, I found myself enjoying the conversation so much that I continued to chat even after I had finished my meal. After breakfast, they let us go about our business without interruption.
When we returned in the evening, snacks were set out for us. Some examples of what was served include cookies, fruit, apple pie and drinks. The inn has a small sitting area in the hallway that leads to the backdoor. That is the area they use for evening snacks. If you head out the back door, you will find a hammock, which was perfect for soaking up the small town atmosphere at the end of the day. There is also a grill and patio seating which are available for guest use.
The Tolley House Bed and Breakfast is not within walking distance of the Jack Daniels Distillery, which is the main (perhaps only) attraction in Lynchburg. However, the distillery is only a one or two minute drive down the road. There is plenty of free parking at the distillery, so don’t let that deter you from enjoying the inn.
