Füssen, Neushwanstein and Hohenschwangau
On a whim, I decided to team up with Nicole, a girl from Australia and go to Füssen to see the castels Neushwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Neushwanstein is famous for being the "fairytale" castel that Walt Disney modeled Cinderella's castel from.
Interestingly though, the castel was never actually finished, because King Ludwig II, who had a flare for building things, died of mysterious causes before it was completed. It was only completed on the outside in the early twentieth century by the German government to be set up as a museum. Out of the 100 or so rooms in the place, only 17 were completed before Ludwig's death.
Hohenschangau, on the other hand, was a complete castel, and was used as a summer home for Ludwig's father, King Max, and later served as a place where Ludwig could veiw the construction of his much grander castel. Both castels are situated across from eachother and overlook Füssen.
