Customs

Between Odessa and customs of the Transnistria conflict zone we traveled on a winding, long and stupid road. We stopped before the entrance to the customs to drink and eat something.

When our turn comes to customs, the officials ask us if we are sure we want to get in Transnistria. Because we were stupid, we said yes and queued on the entry for Transnistria.

The custom officer noticed we had Romanian passports and ask us if we have the invitation. In Ukraine we could not return because we had one entry visa. In Transnistria we could not entry because we had no invitation. So we were in "no man's land", between countries.

A Romanian bus driver was very kind and explained us that we should give some bribe. We went to the head office of customs and remained very surprised that he talked Romanian very well. We paid 15 USD each and suddenly we had the invitation. He made a map with our destinations and our list of names. We received then the information that we have 2 hours to transit the area.

Thank customs officials, we get the bikes and go. At 10 meters we are stopped again to pay road tax. Obviously no such tax exists. We were asked 25 USD / motorcycle. Is another rip off.

We departure towards Tiraspol. We briefly made 2-3 pictures because it was not a safe area. The army is in power there. The goal was that by the end of the day to enter in Moldova, in Chisinau.

Marcos and I got lost and Pacasac stops to ask a policeman about directions.

We had tips that in Transnistria not to talk to militia or stop at their signs. The cop wants to take his license because Pacasac passed as a continuous line. Marcos and I received fines because we parked irregular. Another rip off!

We paid the bribe there and run for customs, this time on track. You obviously to get out of Transnistria we had to pay again the road fee. Marcos managed to trick the customs offices and we paid in a different currency (10x lower value).

The custom officers were extremely meticulous. We were asked if we had weapons or drugs. Anyway even we had some, we were not stupid to tell them that. Customs officials were attracted by the radioation detector. We tricked him fast telling him is a multimeter for motorcycle from the tool kit of motorcycle.
