Glaciers never get old

Bear Glacier is huge.
We really slept in today. Didn't get out of Kinaskan Lake till just before 11. We sped through breakfast and tent teardown. I think it was a new record even though not a word was spoken. The awesome power of spending so much time with another person.

We played 20 questions and f (f***), kill, or marry for quite some time. In no time, we'd turned off highway 37 and were at Bear Glacier. It was just there, right next to the highway. As if it were nothing! We stopped at King Eddy's for the most sumptuous burger I've ever had. The King Eddy burger had a beef pattie, an egg, ham, bacon, tomato, lettuce, pickles and mayo. And mushrooms. And it came with season fries. I didn't think we were going to make it through our burgers but we persevered.

We drove straight in to Hyder, Alaska and walked around.
But skinny.
When I straight in, I mean we literally drove straight in. No border control. Not even a rent-a-cop. There was just the 'Welcome to Hyder Sign' hanging up there. Once we'd checked in to Camp Run-A-Muck and spent a little time on the internet, we decided it'd be best to drive up to Salmon Glacier today instead of doing it tomorrow. What a sight. It started somewhere around kilometre 27 and went on and on. The road itself winds alongside the glacier which is just magical.

At the picnic spot, you can see up into the mountains, where the glacier originates from. We found a huge rock to sit and read on and just enjoyed the sight. Since we had our kitchen with us, we took advantage of an opportunity I can't imagine ever having again: we had dinner at the glacier.

Great quote from the day: "Yes you ARE a big glacier. Who's a big glacier? You are!"
Yes, she was literally talking to the glacier.

Fits with the rest of Hyder
This campground seemed a bit run down but Hyder's like that so it wasn't such a big deal. This campground is essentially the backyard of the Sealaska … read entire review
