YOUNG GIRL ON FERRY TO SSESE ISLANDS
I had just completed a long and delayed journey from Kuala Lumpur to Entebbe via Dubai and Addis Ababa, arrived tired and exhausted .

Great Ugandan friends met me at the airport and drove me to the Golf View Inn , Entebbe , a good reasonably priced local hotel very close to the ferry at Nakiwogo . http://www.golfview-inn.com/

I got up early the next morning and walked down to the entebbe botanical gardens  before catching the 2pm sailing on the M.V. Kalangala bound for the Ssese Island of Bugala about three and a half hours away.

I was almost the only Caucasian on the ferry; it is a wonderful feeling . The Ferry was packed with local Ugandans going to Kalangala either for a weekend break , or some going back to their home villages.

FISHERMEN AT KALANGALA , SSESE ISLANDS UGANDA
I got talking to some students from the Kalangala  Agricultural College , they said that they hardly ever saw any Western tourists , so I was a bit of a novelty to them and they were very keen to practice their English and ask me all about the U.K and also about Malaysia , (where I am now staying).

Booked into the Pearl Gardens Beach Resort for 3nights .  Beautiful views over Lake Victoria , within walking distance from the ferry . A perfect spot to unwind, relax , walk through the local fishing village and then uphill for about 45mins or so till you come to the main "Town "of Kalangala.

I was very fortunate and met up with a great local Ugandan guide .

LOCAL VILLAGE BOYS 1
Thomson showed me around the Fishing Village , it was dirt poor . Even at 8am  the men had started drinking the local brew , it is made from maize and is fermented in old buckets .It looks like gravel with a bit of water in it , 2 or 3 men will be drinking through straws around each bucket of this highly alcoholic brew.

Left the shore area and continued walking uphill through forested area and over small streams until we reached the hill top . There we were greeted by a group of local youngsters who had never seen a white man before, they were shy at first but Thomson told them I had come from a long way away ,to visit their Island and their Village . They asked me lots of questions about my home country , it was great fun.

Had local lunch of beans and rice before heading back down the tarmac road ,a longer but easier journey to the hotel.
