The trip to Daytona started late as the New Kid forgot to change his clock for Daylight savings time. Not a big problem still lots of time to see the sights & sounds of one of the most unique Party’s anywhere. The New kid is from New Jersey (I don’t hold that against him too much) down here working for a couple of months. He brought his bike from NJ had been riding a little on the weekends. I asked him how he wanted to go being the good host I always am. NK said he wanted to see some of the Florida back roads that I kept tell him about. I like back roads so we went to Plant City for breakfast; Plant City has a great little town square & old time train station that is closed but still maintained.
During breakfast NK could not stop talking about the great roads, wonderful weather & he could not stop smiling. It was somewhat contagious to see someone having so much fun looking at and doing things you take for granite. I started to think how easy it is to forget to stop and smell the roses so to speak. I slowed down a little I still like to go fast just didn’t do it as long. Every time we stopped at a light or stop sign NK had a SEG (Sh-t Eating Grin) on his face & would ask “Did you see that or what was that smell, do they all do that?” I started to enjoy watching him enjoy himself so much. When we were about 50 or 60 miles from Daytona he said for the first time but not the last “ I have never see so many bikes at one time” you haven’t seen anything yet NK. When we headed west on 42 traffic picked up & his smile got bigger, his gestures more animated and his voice louder as he say more & more bike going to or coming from Daytona. Took a left on A1A bikes were going in all directions much to NK’s amazement. The pictures will show what all the excitement of Daytona is all about. Next time you are lucky enough to have a NK with you going somewhere try to watch their eyes & stop and Smell the Roses.
