Weekend in Paris

I just spent lovely weekend in Paris.  People call Paris the most romantic city in the world and I can see why.  This is a trip that at first I was going to do alone, however I am so glad that I was able to recruit people to come along with me.  Two other friends from school came to Paris and we called it a girl’s weekend filed with sightseeing, eating out, and shopping.  It definitely made for a different experience because if I had gone alone it would have been a lot different.

I arrived to Paris on Thursday evening.  One of my friends came that evening with another friend that evening as well.

Notre Dame
Since we arrived late in the evening, we only went to dinner and came back to the hotel to prepare for the next day.   Friday was a big day for us.  We went for lunch at Lizard Lounge near Hotel De Ville since we heard that is a good place for lunch. The food there was really good and we got recommendations from our waitress on things to do for the evening.  Once we finished lunch we walked along the Seine River to Norte Dame and then to Musee D’Orsay.  We then walked down Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triumphe.  Of course along the way, we stopped into a couple of shops to grab some items.  Afterwards we headed over to dinner at a nice restaurant.  Since we were in probably one of the most expensive districts of Paris, we had to search around for about 30 minutes to find good food at a decent price.  The restaurant was actually pretty nice and the food was good.  After dinner we went back to the hotel so that we could meet another friend who was coming in that evening.  Overall, it was a good first day.

Saturday was just the same as Friday.

Notre Dame
We had plans to go on a walking tour, however we overslept and missed the tour.   Instead we went for a late breakfast and then to the Louvre.  The Louvre is a fantastic museum.  It is huge, however we planned the areas of the museum that we really wanted to see and visited those.  I liked the museum for a number of reasons – the architecture inside is gorgeous and it has a vast selection of artwork.  I liked the sculptures more than anything since I am not really that into art prior to the 19th century.  That is the main difference between the Louvre and Musee D’Orsay, which is why I liked Musee D’Orsay a bit more.  After the Louvre we walked down Champs Elysees for more shopping and later headed over to dinner in the Tour Eiffel area.  The food here was amazing.  After dinner we went to the Eiffel Tower for the usual tourist visit.  After viewing the Eiffel Tower at night I can definitely say that it looks completely different and much better than the way it looks during the day.   We became so crazy with taking pictures at the Tour Eiffel that we almost missed our train back to the hotel.

Luckily we were able to catch the last train to make it back to the hotel.

Sunday morning, my friend Stacey and I went to Laduree for breakfast since we heard that this is the best place for macaroons. The reviews are more than correct on this one.  I had a croissant, tea, and a selection of macaroons.   We tried about eight different macaroons and were in heaven.   We liked the macaroons so much that we decided to  buy some to take as gifts to family.  We were in such a good mood after Laduree that we went for more shopping.   It was a good and relaxing day.

Everyone left on Sunday so I was alone on Monday.    It felt different to be in the city by myself and made me realize how good it was to have friends on the trip with me.  I went to Angelina for breakfast and hot chocolate, which the restaurant is famous for.  I ordered the Afikans Chocolate and it was really good.  The croissant was the same as yesterday, no big difference.  After Angelina, I went to the Musee L’Orangerie.

Me at the Arc
This museum was small and nice.  What I liked most about this museum is that it had a large collection of Monet’s Water Lilies.  There was also most impressionist art in the museum as well.  After the museum I strolled through the  Tuileries Gardens to relax and enjoy the beautiful day.

I really enjoyed my trip to Paris.  I think that Paris is a wonderful city and even though I did not have time to visit everything, I plan to come back so that I can really enjoy the city.
