Anna gave me a lecture on salt...Serious.
So to continue, I met up Dennis and many others who were waiting outside the Leiden Centraal station. Was very nice to see many of them whom I have communicated in the past thru requesting for friendship or 'arguing' in the Travel Chats.

I felt a little awkward, dunno why. There were just many I did not know, actually I have never met anyone of them. So, to break the ice, my own 'kakinang' (sort of my own kind...ha ha ha...Keiko who is from Singapore), Keiko came to greet me and I felt welcome and at home, even same when first Dennis 'found' me at ATM area. So Keiko, brought me the 'Karipap', Currypuff which she made specially for me...How Sweet of you Keiko, Thanx. It was suppose to make me feel at home and I did. So started to get introduced and introduce to everyone around.
Gejah again...
All nice people with nice broad smiles. Feeling comfortable, we waited for Matt to arrive from hotel as he had hard time flying in.

Then, we took a walk around town with this lovely young lady, Anna, the Dolfijn giving us a tour around the Leiden historical buildings and nice sightseeing, even the salt container was a topic for discussion - serious discussion. Well, I will continue tomorrow as it is already 10.20pm and I am still in the office. I will post the pictures as many as I can but write more tomorrow.

So continuing today.......We went for the HIgh Tea as everyone was pretty much HUNGRY...ik heb hunger, Djenny says...ha ha ha..me too.
So we walked up the stairs and to all surprise, it was MAGNIFICIENT setting with superb table settings, flowers...too lovely to just write here, you ought to be there to feel it. So, we dine in style, trying to get to know each other and I was fortunate to sit with Djenny as well, as we talked about SURINAME and it brought back lots and lots of nice memories. Actually, there are so much to share on a 1st. TB Meet-up experience but I will fastforward. From there, we walked to a bar and had couple of drinks, while standing as the place was full but all of us had g

Nice hairdo dude, and nice guy, little spooky aber ok.
Been in TB world since November 2008. Just stumbled upon it in Internet while searching for travel options. Started with a profile and immediately was sucked into the eventual addiction and habitual routine of trying to disturb good souls in making them friends and sharing stories from crab to lobsters, I meant crap, sorry...it's just travel stories. Thought good to have all travel and photos as a record of my own travel for my own. Then, got itchy hands, fingers, head and mind so started to get involve in the travel chat etc. trying to 'shrow' meine idee into the travel world and seek for replies and answers. It worked. Gave me inspiration to travel more, motivation at work to keep my brains active and nice knowing more people.

So, I head out to my first TB Meet-up in Leiden for Valentine's Day.
Aaah, the sweet Gejah, such a lovely lady
Not nervous but kinda funny, to meet some people who share same interests but not sure if we can communicate with same inspirations. So, decided to arrive early, left Kassel, Germany by train and arrive into Amsterdam Centraal a night earlier. Arrived at 9pm. Walked and found a Malaysian restaurant, how cool (realized I was walking like a dog with hanging saliva, Pavlov's buddy, looking for familiar food). Immediately, as I am always rude, walked to a table where I thought the four are Malaysians. BINGO. Walla, they even work for Petronas, my previous company. So, they invited me to join them, 3 guys and a girl and we had great time eating Nasi Lemak, Laksa, Nasi Goreng and Teh Tarik ....aaaaahhhhhh, my tongue came back alive singing.....then we left happily exchanging our business cards.
Smoking joint lol...
Stomach satisfied, I looked for a place to sleep, a hostel. Walked a little, came across Astoria Hostel, near to Victoria Hotel.

Stepped in, asked the reception, got a bed in 4 bed dorm, while being told, there is one indian guy and a french guy. OH, cool, geen problem.
Stepped in the room, saw a Rasta looking guy, chillin and smoking marijuana. What the ****? Oh, well, what the ****, it will be interesting anyway. So, no indian, but from Martinique. Put my bag on bed across him, he asked me " you from Germany".....What the ****? I thought.....I asked "why do you ask", "Do I look like from Germany? I was so puzzled, I asked him 3 times to which he said nothing. I finally said, I am from India...he he, kinda worried that maybe he is a psychic, or the joint make him float high up and he can see everything.
Me and such a beautiful babe...yes she is....more like beauty and beast
There is no way he can know or suspect I am coming from Germany. Amazing. Spooky. So, I gave him bread and drinks I had with me and sat with him and smoked Mari and chat. Talked lots of crap, him and me. Then, I went out to check out couple of bars. He kept saying to me, hey bring a woman, there are many travelers who might look for a room at this hour, it was 12.30 midnight and the bed next to him is empty. Freak, I thought and left. Came back around 2.30am. Was quiet, the french guy sleeping, so I walked in the dark and tugged myself into the blanket and wanted to sleep. Trying to sleep. Then the joint-guy (I call him that now, ooopppsss, I do not remember his name, how rude I am...) got up around 3am and started talking to himself and sitting down smoking joint and kept talking. What the ****? I could not sleep. Anyway, next morning I left at 10am and he was kinda sad.

I took a train to Leiden and arrived a little late. Dennis picked me up near the ATM machine and I saw a whole bunch of TB's. I will write in another blog here.

What a mess!!...no no, it was the most memorable afternoon, great job organizers - A,K & D

To continue where I left days ago, the TB group had good time standing around in the bar we went, time to time, needed to move away the body as waiters and waitresses were jealous and wanted to break us up, bringing drinks to other non-TB members who were there trying to eavesdrop on TB's excited talking to each other. Talked about diving and many things of travel in nature apart from getting to know each other. Und then, we move to Ola Rosa, I think, my memory seems to fade with bar names when my alcohol level shoots up. Ola Rosa, we went in and found a place right on top of the bar, with a perched sitting area, cramping ourselves with one chair in the middle which turns out to be very popular chair. It is strange that people who never met or known each other had so much to talk about especially when you have a chocolate lover sitting next to you and the happy faces all around.

Ah, sweet Gejah, Dennis and little Mandy.
We started to have fun, laughter until I fell off the chair with beer spilled over parts of me. There were other competitive chair, one which Matt from UK decided not-to-ever let go as it luxuriously has beautiful girls all around. Talks were centered around our beloved birthday boy Jos, when tapas were sent around over my head, over the chair in the middle. Anna, Dennis and others have so much to share that time was short. Time passed on. I vaguely remember they gave us all, a pair thingy, i dunno, kinda matching female-male 'parts'...and then we all tried to see who matches. Suddenly, I was pulled away to the bar downstairs as it matched with one beautiful TB member and we had free drinks. Alcohol level 'flows' to summit and TB's mood changes, many were more relaxed then before, many share good jokes, laughters, the night creeps on us and the music brought us on the dance floor.
The Valentine's TB group.
We were having good times like we have known each other for so long. Finally, time to go and as I was 'homeless' as few others were too, our dear host Anna (Dolfijn) welcomed us to her home and with 6 people, I was the chosen one to lie (sleep) over 3 pairs of leg at the back seat (actually Dennis threw me across in the car...ha ha ha), so we went home. Sweet dreams, sweeter sleep. I took the couch, very comfortable. Morning came, our birthday boy has many birthday parties that day so he had to leave early. I continued sleeping. Wonderful. We had breakfast with Lieke, Dennis and Anna. Thanx for the marvelous breakfast. Anna, many more thanx for your sharing of your Safari trip in Africa. It opened up million more cells in my brain and excited me more into traveling to Africa, the Gr8 continent.
Nice reflections, see anything wrong in this picture?
Dennis offered to take me to the train station. We bade lovely goodbyes with Anna packing me with some coca-cola for the trip back home. Dennis actually drove me all the way to Amsterdam Centraal station, I owe you my man. Overall, I am thankful to all of you Leiden Meet-up TB's, especially the organizers Anna, Dennis and Keiko. Special thanx to Anna for making me feel at home and Dennis, I wish you happy travels in Italy. What a Gr8 experience to spend Valentine's day with so many lovely people.

What I realized after my first couchsurfing experience is that Travelbuddies are better as we communicate a lot before possible meeting ups. Bravo to TB. I would definitely recommend anyone to try out the TB meet-up as well as plan your trips here with finding some TB to travel with. I am looking forward to my travels in near future.

I can imagine how one would feel just being to a Meet-up and see many people and eventually get to have many friends around the world. It is a fantastic idea though.
